- Brighton have scored just six goals in six Premier League home games this season.
- Sheffield United are the Premier League’s lowest scorers with seven goals in 13 fixtures.
- Under 2.5 goals have been scored in each of the last two meetings between Brighton and Sheffield United.
- Brighton have drawn three of their last four Premier League home assignments.
Albion continue to falter
Brighton’s frustrating 2020/21 campaign hit another bump in the road on Wednesday evening, when Albion were held to a 0-0 draw by Fulham in a largely uneventful clash at Craven Cottage.
While plenty of the Seagulls’ performance have been promising this season, Brighton’s results continue to underwhelm, and their return of just two wins from 13 Premier League assignments is a poor return for a team dusted with plenty of talented players.
Brighton remain one of just two Premier League clubs still searching for their first home win of the new season, alongside Sunday’s opponents Sheffield United, though we expect a toothless Albion to struggle to find the goals they need to beat the Blades.
Sheffield United’s spirited display
Chris Wilder’s United lost for the 12th time in 13 Premier League contests on Thursday evening, when they emerged the wrong side of a five-goal thriller at home to Manchester Utd.
While their eventual defeat was tough to take, the Blades did at least show some fighting spirt against the Red Devils, and they might have stolen a point from the game had they enjoyed a late break or two at Bramall Lane.
That was the first time that Sheffield United notched more than a single goal in a Premier League game this season, though it’s worth noting that both of the Blades’ strikes on Thursday were unusual gifted efforts from the visitors.
Expect a tight game at the AMEX Stadium
All of the evidence suggests we should expect a game of few chances when Albion and Sheffield United face off on the south-coast on Sunday.
Graham Potter’s sparkless Brighton are averaging just a single goal per 90 minutes at home this season, while Chris Wilder’s blunt Blades are the division’s lowest scorers having notched just seven times in total this term, and with both teams despairingly light on efficient finishers in the final third, we expect action to be thin on the ground.
Last season, neither Premier League between Brighton and Sheffield United set pulses racing, and under 2.5 goals hit the net in the teams’ 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane and the Blades’ narrow 1-0 triumph at the AMEX Stadium.
We expect the first encounter of the 2020/21 campaign between these two strugglers to be similarly low on excitement, and as result, we recommend backing under 2.5 goals to be scored again, though our 1-1 correct score prediction tips the visitors to end their eight-match losing streak by digging out a point against the Seagulls.
Albion are quickly turning into one of the division’s draw specialists this term, and Brighton – who have scored exactly once three times in their last quartet of home matches – drew three of their last four assignments on their own patch.
Sheffield United meanwhile, have scored exactly once in three of their last five away tests, though a single effort again should be enough for the Blades to claim a share of the spoils against a Brighton team that hit one or fewer goals in a massive 13 of their last 15 Premier League home games since December last year.
