At last we have a double gameweek in the Fantasy Premier League season. It’s a prime opportunity to make use of those wildcards, if you’ve managed to hold off of using them up to this point that is. If so then Gameweek 19 is a chance to make use of your bench boost or triple captain so, if you are considering it, make sure you keep in mind the following Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks.
Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks
Kevin De Bruyne (vs Crystal Palace + Aston Villa)
Manchester City are in flying form at the minute, and in Gameweek 19 they face two mid-table sides so have an ideal opportunity to close the gap on table-toppers Manchester United and Liverpool. Given City’s lack of an out-and-out goal scorer at the moment, as Sergio Aguero is injured and Gabriel Jesus is bang out of form, it seems only right to captain Mr Reliable – Kevin De Bruyne.
Although he failed to score or assist against Crystal Palace last season, KDB has a great chance of righting that wrong on Sunday evening. The Belgian has been played further forward recently, and this could cause the shaky Eagles defence some real difficulties. The former Chelsea man is reliant on his team mates being on song too as the majority of his points from assists, but in a game where City are likely to dominate possession there should be plenty of chances for City to score and De Bruyne to create.
A home tie against Aston Villa is next up for Pep Guardiola’s men. Villa have been a tough nut to crack for most of the top six this campaign. However, Villa are more likely to come into the match fatigued after just two days’ rest, potentially focusing their energy on an away day at Everton. There will certainly be rotation in the Cityzen starting line-up, but KDB is irreplaceable and should be able to capitalise on tiring legs and dictate the tempo of the match. I think the Belgian has a real chance of collecting the Man of the Match award in both of these Gameweek 19 ties and therefore is a must to consider for your Fantasy Premier League captain picks.
Mohamed Salah (Manchester United + Burnley)
Liverpool versus Manchester United, looks on paper, like a huge game in the context of the title race. But many are expecting the home side to put the Red Devils in their place, who look like they are punching above their weight in considering themselves as title contenders. One man who is capable of winning this match for his club is Mohamed Salah, and for that reason he is one of my Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks.
The Egyptian has scored 13 and assisted three in his 15 appearances this season, making him one of the highest scorers on Fantasy Football at the moment. Salah will face Luke Shaw in his first match of Gameweek 19, and he certainly should get the better of the Englishman. It is also worth noting that Shaw loves a yellow card, so if he picks one up early then he could be in real trouble against Salah for the rest of the match. Although I’m not expecting a high-scoring game, I do think Salah will score a goal or two.
The second part of Gameweek 19 is certainly where the points are there to be scored for Liverpool’s frontline. They face Burnley in what should be a routine victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men, despite their resurgent form. Surprisingly, Salah hasn’t scored against the Clarets since September 2017, but he definitely should end that record this week. The Egyptian has the pace and movement to breakdown the deep defensive line of Burnley, and if fellow forwards Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are inform then I expect the trio to run rings around Sean Dyche’s men.
Michail Antonio (Burnley + West Bromwich Albion)
After the sale of Sebastien Haller to Ajax, the return of Michail Antonio from injury could not come at a better time. Although manager David Moyes may be reluctant to hand Antonio 180 minutes of football after his injury, despite playing the forward for 90 minutes against Stockport County in the FA Cup, it would be daft not to captain a West Ham player with their favourable Gameweek 19 fixtures.
The Hammers take on Burnley in their first match of Gameweek 19. This looks set to be a very closely fought contest, but West Ham are habitually scraping through these sort of games so it would be no surprise to see them do the same again here. This isn’t a match where I can see Antonio being overly influential, and my money would be on a Tomas Soucek scoring if I had to pick a goalscorer, but if he is in form then he may well grab himself a goal or an assist.
The second-half of Gameweek 19 is where I envision Antonio flourishing. If West Ham are to mount a challenge for the Europa League spots this season then a home match against West Brom is a must-win. Sam Allardyce’s side are simply Championship-bound, as shown by their 2-2 draw with midtable League 1 side Blackpool last week despite playing an almost full strength team. Antonio is capable of breaking through the weak Baggies defence and showing how lethal he is in front of goal. This is a prime opportunity to show manager Moyes why he deserves to be first choice striker, with rumours circulating that his club are interested in signing striker Boulaye Dia.
Harry Kane (vs Sheffield United)
It is a credit to Harry Kane’s goalscoring ability that he is being included in this week’s Fantasy Premier League Captain Picks in a double gameweek despite Spurs playing just one game. But Tottenham Hotspur’s match is against bottom of the table Sheffield United, so it is an obvious inclusion.
The Blades registered their first win of the season last week as they beat Newcastle 1-0, but they did scrape through the match despite playing against 10-men for the entire second-half. It is also worth saying that Newcastle simply aren’t very good and, in my opinion, Steve Bruce needs sacking before the Magpies find themselves in the relegation scrap.
Tottenham still are in within touching distance of the top of the table, and their next few matches couldn’t be more pleasing for manager Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese boss has transformed the Spurs frontline into one of the best in the world, utilising the speed and energy of Heung-Min Son and the passing and physical presence of Kane, who has been superb so far this campaign.
The English striker has already scored 10 and assisted 11 in 2020/21, the most assists he has ever registered in a season already. It really would be shocking for him not to add to both of those tally’s against Chris Wilder’s team, who have conceded 29 goals already this campaign. Although he might not be playing twice this week, Kane is a confident Fantasy Premier League Captain Pick if manager’s would rather play it safe.
