FireKeepers Casino gives free lunches to veterans

FireKeepers Casino gave back to the men and women who served our country one day before Veterans Day on Nov. 10, 2020.

The casino‘s new Fire Hub Food Truck took to the streets for its first large event at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center to give free lunches to veterans and staff.

Both staff and veterans lined up to receive either chicken pot pie or beef stroganoff with the ability to feed up to about 500 people.

Vice President of Food and Beverage at FireKeepers Casino, Mike McFarlen said every year the casino does something for veterans, but this year COVID-19 changed everything.

“This year with COVID we just figured it would be a lot easier for us to bring our new food truck out here,” said McFarlen. “It’s kind of the biggest event we have done with the new vehicle, and have a nice concentration of veterans here to be able to show our appreciation for what they have done for our whole country.”

The new food truck is designed to go out and give back to the community, FireKeepers Casino plans to use it as a mobile food pantry and soup kitchen.
