This week it was revealed that the former CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority, Heathcliff Farrugia, is facing charges after it was revealed that he has links with businessman Yorgen Fenech, who is thought to have had journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in a car bombing in 2017.
Farrugia served as the CEO of the MGA beginning in 2018 before resigning last October after police questioned him related to his ties to Fenech. Fenech is believed to have masterminded the car bombing of Galizia, who was found to be frequently covering the alleged crimes of Fenech.
Details on what alleged criminal links Farrugia has to Fenech weren’t revealed, but there have been allegations that the Maltese gaming industry is being heavily influenced by mafia families, who launder money using online casinos.
We’re closely following this case and will be updating readers as we learn more.
