12:40 Haydock Nursery Handicap (Class 5)
The opening contest in our Haydock betting tips is a 5-furlong novice race for horses rated 0-75. It is very hard to get away from the top 3 in the weights here who despite having to carry far more weight than their opponents, have achieved a great deal more and have been running consistently all year.
Miss Nay Never would be my pick after showing some good early form in the year notably finishing a 5 length fifth in a York listed race. Being by No Nay Never she should find ground conditions fine and a mark of 74 could underestimate her.
Cuban Breeze and Prospect have both been very consistent throughout the year with Cuban Breeze showing some good form off similar marks which would see her go close here, and Prospect has been running well in Novice races finishing 2nd 3 times and should go well again on Nursery debut.
Selections: Miss Nay Never, Cuban Breeze, and Prospect
1:10 Haydock Fillies Novice Stakes (Class 4)
A competitive novice race where the form of these is quite hard to assess. Worldly Wise just about sets the standard after a neck second on debut before a fourth in a competitive Maiden (both runs over Course and Distance). Wrea Green for Tim Easterby has also shown up well in her two starts finishing 2nd and 3rd over 5 furlongs. The step up to 6 furlongs here should suit after getting quite far back in her two starts.
Celestial Queen is a very well-bred newcomer, by Dark Angel out of a Group 2 winning Group 1 placed mare. There is everything chance that if she lives up to her pedigree, she could prove to good for these in what is a competitive but average novice race.
Selections: Worldly Wise, Wrea Green and Celestial Queen
1:45 Haydock Handicap (Class 3)
The feature race of the day is a competitive 6-furlong sprint for horses rated 0-95. Extrodinair has been running very consistently on the all-weather, showing a lot of speed and was unlucky not to win last time and would have been a lot closer in far more competitive company the time before. He missed the break and was then rushed up, taking on the leader and faded late on. A repeat of either of those runs will see him go close providing he handles the heavy ground here.
Music Society has dropped to a winnable mark, has some good form on soft ground and finished second over course and distance here last time. Woven has been crying out for an easier surface all year and his latest poor effort at Yarmouth can be excused. His runs on Good to Soft this year were a good 4th in a far stronger Newmarket race, and good second in a stronger race at Goodwood. A repeat of those runs would see him hard to beat here.
Selections: Extrodinair, Music Society and Woven
2:18 Haydock Novice Stakes (Class 4)
Ghumana sets the standard here after a good debut 2nd at Goodwood which has worked out respectably, she than ran below that at Newcastle next time, but Mark Johnston horses can often bounce back from a disappointing effort. However, the improver in the field looks like Conquering Eagle who has not been disgraced in two very strong Sandown 2-year-old events behind Maximal and One Ruler.
A repeat of either of those runs would see him go close here in this weaker race, but with likely improvement I feel he could prove to be a bit better than these and take this on his way to better things.
Selections: Ghumana and Conquering Eagle
2:48 Haydock Handicap (Class 3)
A competitive Handicap where the one-time Derby hope Brentford Hope lines up for the first time over a mile. He bolted up at Newmarket on debut last year on Soft ground and has run some respectable races this year over 10 and 12 furlongs travelling like the winner in all these before not finding a great deal. He retains promise and ability, and a mile might bring the best out of this strong travelling horse.
Give It Some Teddy was very progressing last year most notably landing a valuable Redcar handicap off just 3lbs lower than today. This was on heavy ground so conditions will be fine. It seems his two runs this year will have put him spot on for today and I can see him running a big race.
Selections: Brentford Hope and Give It Some Teddy
3:18 Haydock Nursery Handicap (Class 4)
A very tricky 5 runner Novice race where a case can be made for all of these possibly due to none of them standing out with them all showing quite inconsistent form. Miramichi is probably the least exposed of these and ran a good race over course and distance on Soft ground two starts ago. He disappointed over a mile at Ripon last time but the drop back to 7 here can suit, especially as he has proved to handle this ground.
Rhoscolyn brings the best form to the table and if his last run in better company can be forgiven then he should have a big chance here. He is 4 lb lower than for his 2nd in a class 2 nursery at Newcastle. He also won over course and distance impressively in August. Another course and distance winner is Desert History. He took a competitive Nursery on Good to Soft before a disappointing run on Soft in a listed race last time. If that run can be forgiven, then he looks reasonably treated on his Maiden form and Nursery win off only 4lb lower.
Miramichi, Rhoscolyn and Desert History
