MMA fans love to joke that Artem Lobov is the sport’s GOAT. Jokes aside, he’s well-known for being a tough brawler willing to step in against anyone on just a days’ notice. Interestingly, some fans are now calling for Lobov vs. Jake Paul to take place in the future.
Paul is coming off a knockout win over former NBA star Nate Robinson. He seems dedicated to boxing now and wants to take on some of combat sports’ biggest stars.
Now is a great time to talk about how a fight between Paul and Artem Lobov would play out.
More Athletes Begin Challenging Jake Paul
It’s been fascinating to see how the Paul brothers have made their way into boxing. Despite having no experience in the sport, they’ve become big names in the boxing community. They are even headlining events featuring world-class champions on the undercard!
On November 28th, Jake Paul took on Nate Robinson in the boxing ring. There was some serious hype heading into this matchup. It didn’t take long for fans to realize Jake was the better boxer and he earned a devastating knockout in the second round.
To the disappointment of some hardcore boxing fans, Jake has no intention of stepping away from the sport. On the contrary, he recently told the media he is “dedicating his life” to beating former UFC champion Conor McGregor.
That’s a matchup that won’t happen anytime soon. Several other athletes seem interested in this bout, though. That includes former top-10 UFC welterweight Ben Askren. Ben claimed he would be more than happy to accept the fight against the YouTube celebrity.
NHL goalkeeper Evander Kane is also interested in this fight. He has some experience in the squared circle and most believe he would have a better chance at victory than Nate Robinson. Nothing has been made official yet, though.
This week, another name emerged as a possible opponent for Jake Paul next. This might be the most intriguing option yet.
Will We See Lobov vs. Jake Paul Take Place in 2021?
Artem Lobov is a well-known fighter in the MMA world. He was exposed to the public as a training partner of the aforementioned Conor McGregor. In 2015, he was a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter’s 22nd season.
To the surprise of many individuals, Lobov made his way through the show and reached the finals. His run in the UFC didn’t exactly go as planned, though. He went 2-5 with the promotion and took some tough losses against fighters including Cub Swanson and Andre Fili.
Lobov then went to the bare knuckle boxing world and was highly successful. He even defeated former boxing champion Pauli Malignaggi, despite coming in as the massive underdog according to almost all online sportsbooks.
Recently, combat sports fans began debating how Lobov vs. Jake Paul would play out. Lobov is considerably smaller, but holds significantly more combat sports experience. Artem spoke to the media this week and claims to be open to this matchup.
“I’m only going to be fighting for two more years and I would like to secure a good future for my family,” Lobov said. “I’ve been getting six figures for quite some time now, and life is good on six figures. But if you want to secure a good future for the family, you have to be hitting those seven-figure paydays, and I feel the easiest way to do it, if not the only way to do it, is through boxing… If they give me the paycheck that I’m happy with, I don’t care. I can whoop Jake Paul or his brother or whoever else in the family wants to get it. They can get it.”
It’s an interesting idea for several reasons. If Jake were to win against Artem, he might be better positioned to challenge Conor McGregor. We’ll be sure to offer more information on this potential matchup in the comments section below!
