NCAA College Football Betting Preview: BYU Cougars vs. Texas State Bobcats – Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020

The BYU Cougars are playing some terrific football this year, and they will look to carry that momentum as they take on the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday night. The Bobcats enter the game 1-5 but have played some tough competition featuring SMU and Boston College.

Kick-off is scheduled for 10:15 p.m. ET, and BetOnline has the Cougars as 28.5 point home favorites.

Texas State Betting Preview: Bobcats Continue to Struggle

While the Bobcats enter this game at 1-5, they have managed to be competitive in most of those games. Four of the losses are by 10 points or less, with two of them being by three points each.

Brady McBride has been solid since taking over the quarterback position, throwing for 809 yards and six touchdowns. Bobcats quarterbacks have combined to throw for nearly 1,500 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions. The offense hasn’t been a major issue, as the unit is averaging 28 points.

McBride has a ton of wide receivers capable of making plays, so the Bobcats could find some success. However, they are going up against a different caliber of offense on Saturday night.

BYU Betting Preview: Heisman Candidate Leads Team

No one has made a bigger push for the 2020 Heisman Trophy than BYU quarterback Zach Wilson.

Through the team’s first five games, Wilson has thrown for 1,641 yards, with 12 touchdowns and only one interception. Even more impressive is that he is completing 78.7% of his passes. He is a terrific athlete who can get outside the pocket, but he is still looking to throw the ball.

His favorite target this year, Dax Milne, has 33 catches for 550 yards and four touchdowns. Take out the first game, and he is averaging 128.8 yards per game in the last four.

The running game has been equally as impressive for the Cougars, led by Tyler Allgeier. The senior has rushed for 416 yards and five touchdowns on a 6.6 yards per carry average. As a whole, BYU averages 4.8 yards.

This offense has the balance and the ability to go score in any facet. Load the box, and you’re giving up 70. However, if you drop more guys to play pass, they can carve you up for six, seven-yard type of runs all night.

Every year a dark horse emerges as a playoff contender, and this year, it is the Cougars.

Free Betting Pick

The Bobcats have shown they are capable of putting up some numbers in the passing game. However, the problem is that they don’t want to get into a fast-paced or high-scoring game with the Cougars.

A 28.5 point spread is also a huge difference, as the Cougars could come out and dominate and still not cover. However, with this BYU offense, we don’t see them being stopped, and it will get ugly.
