NCAA College Football Betting Preview: Iowa State Cyclones vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys – Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020

Stillwater, Oklahoma will host a huge Big 12 matchup at Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The No. 17 Iowa State Cyclones (3-1, 3-0) and No.6 Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0, 2-0) are tied atop the Big 12 standings.

Both teams should be fresh as neither team played last week, and Oklahoma State has not played since Oct. 3. Iowa State defeated Texas Tech 31-15 in their last game, while Oklahoma State destroyed Kansas 47-7.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 P.M. Eastern on FOX. Oklahoma State is a three-and-a-half-point favorite, and the over/under is set at 52.5.

Iowa State Betting Preview

After an ugly start to the season, being upset by Louisiana at home 31-14, Iowa State has turned it around. The Cyclones have put themselves as front runners for the conference title with Oklahoma State after winning at TCU and then at home against Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

Quarterback Brock Purdy has not been as accurate as he would like. He has completed 78-of-125 passes for 912 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Xavier Hutchinson has been his favorite target with 20 catches for 229 yards and a touchdown.

The run game has carried the offense, averaging 179.8 yards per game. Breece Hall has looked like one of the best running backs in all of college football with 581 yards on 93 carries with eight touchdowns.

The Cyclones defense gives up a lot of points, 27.5 a game, but only allows 363.5 total yards per game. They do an excellent job against the run holding their opponents to under 100 yards per game on the ground. Iowa State’s run defense will be tested this week against an Oklahoma State team averaging more than 200 rushing yards per game.

Oklahoma State Betting Preview

The Cowboys seem to be getting better every week after a shaky season opener against Tulsa. Two weeks off should give them plenty of time to get healthy and work out any kinks on offense.

Quarterback Shane Illingworth took over at quarterback when Spencer Sanders went down with an ankle injury against Tulsa. It looks like the true freshman had no interest in giving the job back as he has been outstanding since taking over. He has completed 36-of-49 passes for 483 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

While Illingworth has been good, the strength of this offense is in the run game. Chuba Hubbard, who has not been quite as good as last year, has carried the ball 69 times for 339 yards and four touchdowns. However, his 113 rushing yards per game ranks ninth in the nation.

Oklahoma State has made a giant leap defensively. They hold their opponents to nine points per game (second-best in the FBS) and only 274.3 yards per game.

Iowa State at Oklahoma State is the game of the weekend in college football and may determine who wins the Big 12 conference. Oklahoma State is looking to keep their chances of a berth in the College Football Playoff alive.

Both teams prefer to do their damage by rushing the ball and are excellent at stopping the run. This game should be the classic strength on strength matchup.

I think the Cowboys defense is a little better, and they will come away with a low-scoring victory. I like Oklahoma State -3.5 and the under 54.
