The NFL announced Thursday that this year’s instalment of Hard Knocks on HBO would have a new twist as it follows two teams instead of its usual one.
This season, both the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers will open up their doors to camera crews throughout training camp and preseason. The question now is, what does this mean for bettors looking to back either team?
Hard Knocks Betting History
The show has followed 14 teams since 2001, and over that time span, six teams have gone over their preseason win total set by oddsmakers, seven have gone under and one team (the 2012 Miami Dolphins) pushed.
The first four seasons of the show saw each team fail to reach their preseason win total, but the last two teams to be featured on the show, the Oakland Raiders (2019) and the Cleveland Browns (2018) both surpassed the expectations set by sportsbooks and went over.
This season, the Rams’ 2020 win total is anywhere between 8 and 9 wins, depending where you look. DraftKings has it set at 8 (-110), so if you’re expecting them to be better than expected, it’s best to get your bet in there. Meanwhile, their win total on Fanduel is set at 9 (-115), so if you think they’ll disappoint this season you should take the extra game on their site and bet the under.
There’s less of a discrepancy in win total for the Chargers, with every sportsbook setting it at 7.5. The Chargers are +135 to go under and -110 to surpass the total.
