Slavia to Capitalise at Allianz Riviera
Unfancied Slavia Prague lead the way in Group C after beating Bayer Leverkusen (1-0) and Nice (3-2) on their last two outings and the Czech champions are taken to follow-up against Les Aiglons at Allianz Riviera this Thursday.
Slavia’s 3-2 success on 5th November was more comfortable than the final score-line suggests as Nice only managed to salvage a consolation in stoppage time, and there is little to recommend the hosts this week as they seek to avenge that defeat.
Patrick Vieira’s men have been poor overall in the competition following a narrow 1-0 win here against Hapoel Be’er-Sheva and a 6-2 drubbing at Leverkusen, and they go into Thursday’s encounter at Allianz Riviera with numerous doubts surrounding the squad.
Nice’s weekend match against Marseille was postponed due to 12 of their squad testing positive for COVID-19 a few days prior, so it’s really anyone’s guess as to whether Vieira will be able to field a strong and healthy line-up for this Matchday 4 contest.
That’s reflected in the bookies’ odds with Slavia installed as slight favourites and we think the 6/4 about the Czech’s is well worth taking on the basis of their displays in this competition alone.
With such an open game in the reverse fixture, it’s possible to expect a similar scenario once again – especially as Nice need a victory to stay in contention for the Last 32. With a Slavia win predicted and goals anticipated, we’re also going for a 1-3 correct score in favour of the talented travelling side.
