The Fountain of Youth Stakes Betting Preview and Free Pick – Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021

The Grade 2, $300,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes is the most anticipated race of the weekend. It will take place as Race 14 on the February 27 card at Gulfstream Park and award Derby qualifying points on a 50-20-10-5 scale.

The event for 3-year-olds will cover 1 1/16 miles and include names like Greatest Honour, Fire at Will, and Prime Factor among the field of ten.

Here is a look at the top runners set for the Fountain of Youth:

Betting Preview: Greatest Honour, Fire at Will

The morning-line favorite coming in at 9/5 is Courtlandt Farms’ Greatest Honour. The Tapit colt is trained by Claude R. McGaughey III.

He has a career record of 2-1-2 from five starts and earnings of $175,240. The runner already has one victory in 2021.

That win came in the January 30 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park, where he registered a 103 Speed Figure. To close out his 2021 season, he scored a December 26 maiden special weight race at Gulfstream Park, which followed a second in another at Aqueduct on November 8.

Greatest Honour will break from post 8 under rider Jose Ortiz.

He will be up against the 7/2 Fire At Will. The Declaration of War colt is owned by Three Diamonds Farm and trained by Michael Maker.

He is 3-0-0 from four career starts with earnings of $657,932.

The colt will be making his first start of 2021. He closed out the 2020 campaign with a victory in the November 6 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf presented by Coolmore America (G1) at Keeneland. That victory followed another win in the October 3 Pilgrim Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park, and another on September 2 in the With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga.

Fire at Will is set to break from post 4 under jockey Kendrick Carmouche.

Betting Preview: Prime Factor

Another runner to look out for is WinStar Farm and CHC INC’s Prime Factor, coming in at 5/1. The Quality Road colt is trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher.

He has a career record of 1-0-1 from two career starts and earnings of $43,200. He has one third-place finish this year.

Last time out, he ran third in the January 30 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park. To finish out 2020, he won a December 12 maiden special weight race at the track.

Prime Factor will break from post 2 under rider Irad Ortiz, Jr.

The rest of the field (post, morning line) is set to include: Drain the Clock (post 1, 5/1); Sososubtle (post 3, 20/1); Jirafales (post 5, 20/1); King’s Ovation (post 6, 15/1); Tarantino (post 7, 8/1); Tiz Tact Toe (post 9, 30/1); and Papetu (post 10, 15/1).

Free Betting Pick

Greatest Honour is still the one to beat despite the strong field of ten. He is coming off a dominating 5 3/4-length winning performance in the Holy Bill ahead of Prime Factor. According to trainer McGaughey, he has been working well leading up to the race. He is a horse that comes from behind, so he will hope to have pace in front of him.
