Welcome to the Spooky Express’s weekly golf breakdown, where we dive in head first to this week’s PGA Golf tournament and look for your best options for betting. In this week’s article, we will take a look at the course, course history, recent form and many other variables that we feel will have a bearing on the outcome of this week’s tournament. Without any further delay, let’s take a look at The Northern Trust.
The pro’s of the PGA head to Norton, Massachusetts to start the FedEx Cup Playoffs at The Northern Trust. Before we talk about this week, let’s briefly go over last week at the Wyndham Championship.
Last week in the PGA, we gave out Webb Simpson as one of our biggest plays this year and we were looking to extend our nice little win streak to 4 wins in 3 weeks. We felt strongly about Simpson, especially since this was sort of his home course and a place he has loved playing on however he simply couldn’t beatJim Herman, as Herman played lights out golf to win the 2020 Wyndham Championship.
The Northern Trust Tournament Details
Current Champion: Patrick Reed
Dates: Aug. 20-23, 2020

The FedEx Cup Playoffs are upon us with the top 125 golfers teeing it off this week at the Northern Trust. The Northern Trust will take place starting Thursday, August 20 and run for 4 consecutive days until Sunday, August 23 2020.
The FedEx Cup Playoffs will consist of three weeks of golf. This week at The Northern Trust, then the BMW Championship and finally, the TOUR Championship.
The Northern Trust will cut the field to low 65 and ties after 36 holes, while the BMW Championship and TOUR Championship are no-cut events.
Past Winners (Last 20 Years)
Several golfers have won this tournament multiple times, which in most cases would make you think that course form and course history should be at the top of your rankings structure but I caution you to be careful as this tournament flips back and forth between New York and Boston each year, with a new course being played nearly every year.
TPC Boston – Norton, Massachusetts
The Northern Trust will be played at TPC Boston, which is located in Norton, Massachusetts. The course sits about 25 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts and is a private golf club.
TPC Boston was originally designed by Arnold Palmer in 2001. The course was re-designed in 2007 by Gil Hanse and PGA Tour player Brad Faxon.
The course measures approximately 7,343 yards and plays out as a Par 71.
The fairways are made up of Princeville Bentgrass. The fairways are fairly generous and easy to hit, so these golfers really shouldn’t struggle this week if they stay in those fairways.
The greens are Penn A-4 Bentgrass and folks, this is where the problems will come into play. These greens are very small and lightning fast, much smaller and much faster than what most are used to seeing on tour. Get ready for some 3 and 4 putts on the greens!
The Northern Trust System Attributes
Because of the small and faster greens, our top system attribute this week will be putting. The true indicator of this course and the determination of who will win will come down to who can get to and have success on the greens. We will put a priority on Putting and Strokes Gained: Off The Tee.
- Strokes Gained: Putting
- Strokes Gained: Off The Tee
- Greens In Regulation
- Strokes Gained: Tee To Green
- Par 5 Scoring
- Course History
- Good Form

Bryson DeChambeau +1200 at MyBookie for 2.5 units
This week, our top play is none other than Bryson DeChambeau. Bryson is far superior for this tournament than any other golfer. His numbers are actually eye shattering this week in favor of him winning. He won the Northern Trust last year and normally I don’t ever bet a golfer to win back-to-back weeks or back-to-back annual tournaments however this is a bit different because we’re talking about a completely different course. Bryson is #1 in Strokes Gained: Off The Tee, 4th in Putting and 4th in Par 5 Birdie or Better %. He is #1 in the tournament in Scoring Average and we seriously don’t think anyone beats him this week.
