Having the honors to be the first fight on the prelims for the next UFC event is a huge deal. This will help set the tone for the rest of the night. The fighters that will be going head to head in this matchup are featherweights Jacob Kilburn and Austin Lingo.
Date: Sat, Jan 16, 11:00 AM
Venue: Flash Forum
Watch on: ESPN+
Jacob Kilburn (8-3-0)
Kilburn has not fought in a year, with his last bout taking place in December of 2019. In that fight, he lost to Billy Quarantillo by submission.
His fighting resume shows that he has four wins by knockout, two by submission and two by decision. He only has one first round finish on his resume, with several other fights being closed out early in the second round.
“The Killer” only has two UFC fights on his resume, so these numbers are not going to fully represent some of the outliers. He has a striking accuracy at 55 percent and nothing yet for a grappling accuracy.
He lands 0.77 significant strikes a minute while absorbing 7.26. Again, this is greatly inflated due to the lack of UFC fights so far. This also tells us he has had two back to back fights where he struggled to land hits and defend.
In fact, his significant strike defense so far is at 17 percent. He will need to have taken the time over this last year to really make himself more of a threat in these fights.
Austin Lingo (7-1-0)
Lingo is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Youssef Zalal back in February of 2020. This bout snapped his previous seven fight winning streak.
His fighting resume shows that he has three wins by knockout, two by submission, and two by decision. He also has five first round finishes with a combined effort of knockouts and submissions.
Lingo only has one UFC fight on his resume with the recent loss to Zalal. In that bout, he had a striking accuracy at 19 percent and was able to land all of his attempts for grappling.
“Lights Out” landed 0.80 significant strikes a minute and absorbed 2.07. This is not a great ratio, but the gap is still considerably closer than what Kilburn has experienced.
Lingo had a takedown defense at 50 percent and a significant strike defense at 43 percent. He also was able to land a successful takedown.

Both of these fighters are looking to snap their losing streaks and to win their first victory in the UFC. For one of them, this will not turn out well.
Overall, Lingo appears to have a better all around portfolio and skill set. Look for him to land his first UFC win.
